Job summary

Mustang Special Utility District is seeking a Development Inspector to perform field inspections of development projects and ensure compliance with the District’s construction standards, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.

The Development Inspector will coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and consultants, maintaining inspection records and reporting progress to the Director of Engineering & Development. Some evening or weekend work may be required due to project needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in inspection of water and wastewater infrastructure, or inspection of public works projects, ideally in a governmental capacity.
  • Preferred: TCEQ Water and/or Wastewater Licensure, APWA CPII Certification, and relevant safety certifications.
  • Must have a valid Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire as required by state law.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections on development projects to ensure compliance with plans and construction standards, including pipelines, manholes, fire hydrants, vaults, and services.
  • Coordinate with operations staff for tie-ins and potential service interruptions and help resolve conflicts across intersecting projects.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, inspection records, and markups; report updates to the Director of Engineering & Development.

Position SummaryThe Development Inspectors within the Engineering, Planning, and Construction Division performs field inspections of development projects to ensure compliance with the District’s approved construction standards, as well as local, state, and federal code and regulations. The Development Inspector collaborates with various stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and consultants. This position is critical to ensuring that new infrastructure accepted by the District is held to high quality standards.Essential Functions:Development Projects Inspection: Perform inspections on development projects to ensure compliance with plans and construction standards. Inspections will include, but are not limited to, pipelines and their appurtenances, manholes, fire hydrants, vaults, and services.Project Coordination: Ensure projects are completed according to contract drawings and specifications. Coordinate with operations staff when necessary for tie-ins and service interruptions. Assist in the resolution of conflicts and coordination where multiple development projects intersect or overlap.Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate regular communication with project stakeholders, including internal teams contractors, and consultants. Provide updates on project progress and alert relevant staff of discrepancies or issues with construction. Provide updates to staff regarding potential changes or improvements of plans to better facilitate expansion or operation of Mustang’s system.Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact. Review project plans to identify risks prior to or early in the construction process. Monitor risk factors throughout the project lifecycle and adjust plans as necessary to ensure project success.Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, markups, and inspection records.
