Job summary

Mustang Special Utility District in Texas seeks a Senior Wastewater Technician to support operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater collection system. You will monitor systems, perform lift station checks, and assist with cleaning, inspections, and emergency responses to keep lines, manholes, and pumps functional and compliant.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in wastewater collection.
  • Must possess a valid Class C Driver's License (Texas) and be able to obtain the Texas Class C license within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on pumps, valves, and control systems in the wastewater collection network.
  • Carry out sewer line cleaning, lift station checks, and basic preventive maintenance; document operational data.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and ensure safety, proper PPE use, and adherence to protocols.

This position performs a wide range of tasks including system monitoring, sewer line cleaning, lift station inspections, equipment operation, and infrastructure repair. The role involves operating and assisting with equipment such as vacuum trucks, jet trailers, skid steers, excavators, service trucks, bypass pumps, and generators. The Technician inspects pumps, motors, valves, and control systems, performs routine and emergency maintenance, documents system performance, and supports regulatory compliance. By ensuring wastewater lines, manholes, and lift stations remain clean, functional, and reliable, this position plays a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible wastewater services to the community.Essential Functions:System Maintenance and Repairs: Performs routine maintenance and inspections on pumps, motors, valves, control systems, sewer mains, laterals, and manholes. Performs daily lift station checks and documents operational data such as amperage, pump hours, and site conditions. This role also supports sewer line cleaning, debris removal, blockage relief, and high-pressure washing of manholes and wet wells.Equipment Operation and Maintenance: This position operates or assists with a wide range of equipment, including vacuum trucks, jet trucks, skid steers, excavators, crane trucks, dump trucks, bypass pumps, generators, and service trucks. The Technician performs pre and post trip inspections, conducts basic preventive maintenance, and reports equipment issues to ensure readiness for field operations.Regulatory, Documentation & Communication: Supports supervisor in preparing TCEQ compliance reports. They complete work orders, document hours, maintain accurate field records, and communicate effectively with the Supervisor and operators regarding task status and system observations.Safety, Traffic Control & Emergency Response: This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, including setting up and removing confined space entry equipment such as air monitors and ventilators, and consistently wearing required PPE. The Technician assists with establishing and removing traffic control devices, signs, and barricades to protect both the public and work crews during field operations. They also participate in emergency response efforts, including afterhours and weekend callouts, to address overflows, blockages, equipment failures, and other urgent system needs.Customer and Public Support: This role also provides courteous customer service, helping respond to public inquiries related to wastewater operations and relay information as needed.QualificationsEducation:Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience:Required:Minimum 3 years of experience in wastewater collectionWastewater Collection II LicenseBasic GIS KnowledgeBasic SCADA KnowledgePreferred:5 years of experience in wastewater collectionWastewater Collection III or Wastewater Treatment BAdvanced GIS KnowledgeAdvanced SCADA KnowledgeNASSCO CertifiedWork Environment and Physical RequirementsOutdoor Work: You will primarily work in an outdoor environment, utilizing standard equipment such as power tools, hand tools, pumps, heavy equipment, trucks and trailers. It also involves physical activity such as walking, climbing and handling the equipment.Safety Gear: Consistently wear protective gear such as safety shoes, safety vests, gloves, and hard hats to ensure safety during fieldwork.Flexible Hours: Must be able to work outside of regular business hours to meet regulatory deadlines or respond to emergencies. This includes working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
