Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery, Robotics and Digital seeks a Development Engineering Manager to lead a team supporting the OTTAVA Surgical Robotics platform. You will manage talent, drive product development, and partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and suppliers to deliver robust, manufacturable medical devices on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Education: a Bachelor’s degree is required; mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
  • An advanced degree (Master’s) is preferred.
  • Six years of relevant experience and leadership in development engineering within regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Development Engineers through coaching, performance management and growth planning.
  • Mentor engineers and align roles with business objectives to build technical capability.
  • Lead NPD/NPI component and process development, transfer, and manufacturing readiness while meeting quality and schedule commitments.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership through reviews, risk assessments, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, and suppliers to ensure robust, cost-effective medical device solutions.
  • Drive cross-functional decisions balancing design intent, manufacturability, regulatory requirements, and cost.
  • Lead application of DFM/DFA and design-to-cost principles to optimize manufacturability and product realization.
  • Oversee manufacturing readiness through analysis, risk assessment, and supplier alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems, design controls, risk management, GMP, and regulatory standards throughout the lifecycle.
  • Oversee documentation, verification/validation, process qualification, and supplier development to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
