Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Development Engineering Manager for the OTTAVA Surgical Robotic Platform in Santa Clara. You will lead a team of development engineers, advance NPD/NPI programs, and ensure compliant, manufacturable designs that meet quality and regulatory standards.

You will mentor engineers, drive design transfer, and partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to deliver reliable, cost-effective medical devices.

Qualifications

• Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional work experience.
• Experience in product development within a regulated environment.
• Experience managing engineers or technical teams.
• Strong understanding of NPD/NPI, design transfer, and manufacturing readiness.
• Experience with DFM/DFA, design-to-cost, supplier collaboration, and component qualification.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical, or related manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Development Engineers through coaching and performance management.
• Mentor engineers and align roles to business objectives.
• Lead development engineering for NPD/NPI programs and design transfers.
• Provide technical leadership through planning, risk assessments, and design standards.
• Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to align priorities and resources.
• Drive cross-functional decisions balancing design intent, manufacturability, cost, and regulatory needs.
• Apply DFM/DFA and design-to-cost principles to optimize manufacturability and cost.
• Drive manufacturing readiness and successful transfer into production.
• Ensure compliance with quality systems, design controls, risk management, and GMP.
• Oversee documentation, verification/validation, and supplier development.
