Job summary

The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs seeks a Development Director to lead the organization’s philanthropic revenue, reporting to the Executive Director and partnering with a proactive board. This role is central to strategy, donor relations, and growth of impact across programs in the region.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of nonprofit development experience with direct staff supervision.
  • Experience building fundraising systems, grant tracking, and budgets.
  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge and collaboration with senior leadership and board.
  • Ability to translate complex legal work into donor-facing storytelling is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fundraising strategy, develop plans to hit revenue goals across donors and foundations.
  • Manage development operations: data integrity, calendars, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Supervise two direct reports and coordinate with program and finance teams.
  • Collaborate with communications and external partners to grow digital fundraising.
  • Design and execute major donor moves and stewardship programs.
