Job description

At Homeless No More, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of families with children experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Through our emergency shelter (Family Shelter), transitional shelter (St. Lawrence Place), supportive services including children’s education programs, affordable housing development (Live Oak), and advocacy initiatives, we provide more than just housing—we empower families to reclaim their independence and build brighter futures.

Development Director

We are seeking a passionate, dynamic Development Director to join our team. In this key role, you will lead essential fundraising efforts, build relationships with new and existing community partners, secure sponsorships, and plan special events that support our mission. You will be a partner with the Chief Executive Officer and work on a donor relations team that includes HNM’s community relations coordinator and grant writer.

Your Role:

As the Development Director, you will manage and grow HNM's individual and community giving. This includes organizing and executing existing fundraising events, building and maintaining sponsorship relationships, and identifying new opportunities that strengthen HNM's community presence and revenue base. You will work in close coordination with leadership on major gifts and the Take Flight and Soar capital campaign. Most importantly, you will be responsible for creating and implementing a yearly development plan that increases non-grant revenue by 10%.

This position has a direct impact on the organization’s reputation among community partners, donors, sponsors, and clients, while impacting the financial and operational performance of the organization. This person will work closely with HNM’s board of directors and committee members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Donor Engagement & Management
  • Serve as donors' primary point of contact, ensuring they feel valued and engaged.
  • Cultivate new relationships with individual and corporate donors to encourage long-term partnerships.
  • Maintain an accurate donor database and ensure streamlined processes.
  • Log and track in-kind and monetary donations using eTapestry.
  • Oversee the mailing of donor thank acknowledgements in a timely manner while working with the administrative specialist.
  • Work with the community relations coordinator to design creative marketing campaigns to increase donor engagement and participation.
Special Event Coordination
  • Lead fundraising event planning, organization, and execution of HNM’s two existing fundraisers: Stars So Bright and Race for Place 5k. Work closely with existing event committees and team members to ensure that event goals are met.
  • Coordinate event marketing with the community relations coordinator to ensure strong attendance and engagement.
  • Utilize past successful event planning experience and expertise to engage donors and support staff in executing meaningful new events that raise funds and/or strengthen, deepen, and/or lead to new key relationships for the organization.
Donor Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Support efforts to identify, engage, and maintain relationships with donors and funding partners.
  • Participate in cultivating and stewarding donor relationships, ensuring they feel appreciated and informed about the impact of their contributions.
  • Create an annual development plan to secure new donors, and retain and upgrade existing supporters, to increase annual fundraising goals by 10% that support the organization’s overall operating budget.
  • Ensure that donor and prospective donor information is captured in HNM’s donor database and that tracking capabilities are maximized for campaigns, appeals, and events.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Represent HNM at community events, meetings, and workshops.
  • Assess and recommend improvements for donor engagement strategies.
  • As part of the greater HNM team, assist with non-revenue special events such as our Holiday Shop.
