Job Description: Development Coordinator
Status: Full Time/Exempt
Reports To: Director of Development and Communications
Position Summary
The Development Coordinator plays a key role in advancing The Julian Center's mission through fundraising, donor engagement, volunteer coordination, and community outreach. This position is primarily focused on Development and Donor Engagement (70-80%), with additional responsibility for Volunteer Coordination (10-20%) and Community Engagement (10%).
Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Development Coordinator supports fundraising efforts through donor stewardship, gift administration, database management, reporting, communications, events, and relationship building.
Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support fundraising events, volunteer activities, donor engagement opportunities, and community events.
Primary Responsibilities
DEVELOPMENT & DONOR ENGAGEMENT (70-80%):
Fundraising & Donor Relations
- Support annual giving, major gifts, grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, and donor engagement initiatives.
- Assist with donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention strategies.
- Coordinate donor acknowledgments, tax receipts, recognition, and stewardship communications.
- Maintain donor pipelines, prospect tracking, and moves management activities.
- Serve as a key point of contact for recurring and monthly donors.
Donor Database & Gift Administration
- Manage and maintain accurate donor records within the organization's CRM.
- Process gifts, pledges, grants, recurring donations, matching gifts, and restricted contributions.
- Ensure data integrity, accurate gift coding, confidentiality, and compliance with organizational policies.
- Generate donor lists, reports, and segmentation tools to support fundraising activities.
Reporting & Financial Support
- Prepare fundraising reports, dashboards, and donor analytics.
- Track fundraising performance, donor retention, campaign results, and revenue goals.
- Reconcile development records with Finance and support financial reporting.
- Monitor grants, pledges, and restricted funds and assist with audit preparation.
Communications & Operations
- Support donor communications, including appeals, newsletters, email campaigns, and stewardship outreach.
- Prepare donor profiles, proposals, briefing materials, and stewardship reports.
- Assist with fundraising event logistics and sponsorship fulfillment.
- Recommend and implement improvements to fundraising processes, systems, and operational procedures.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATION (10-20%):
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and recognition.
- Maintain volunteer records, communications, and service-hour tracking.
- Match volunteers with opportunities across agency programs and events.
- Support volunteer participation in special events, donation drives, and seasonal initiatives.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (10%):
- Represent The Julian Center at community events, speaking engagements, tours, and networking opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and partners.
- Coordinate third-party fundraisers, community drives, and outreach activities.
- Increase awareness of The Julian Center's mission through community engagement efforts.
Skills Needed
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze data, generate reports, identify trends, and support informed decision-making.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Teams, with the ability to learn and effectively utilize donor database and fundraising software systems.
- Commitment to The Julian Center's mission, values, and service to the community.
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, identify priorities, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision while adapting to changing needs and circumstances.
- Ability to travel locally for meetings, donor visits, community events, and partnership activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in philanthropy, nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3-5 years related experience
- Experience with donor databases or CRM systems. Bloomerang preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor stewardship and community engagement is strongly preferred.
