Job description

We’re looking for two contract chemists. The hours are flexible, starting between 7-9AM, working until 3:30-5:30 PM.

A recent college graduate with a chemistry degree, with 0-3 years of experience, is a likely candidate. Industry experience is not required but would be a plus.

Our goal is to potentially hire one or both of these individuals into permanent positions by the end of the year.

Job Description:

*** Industrial Coatings produces coatings for appliances, agricultural and construction equipment, electronic materials, automotive parts, residential and commercial construction, wood flooring, and other finished products. As part of the Industrial Coatings Group, the Coil Coatings business seeks a highly motivated Contract Development Chemist in Springdale, PA (a suburb of Pittsburgh). The position reports to the Technical Team Leader for Coil Coatings and involves working closely with chemists and technicians on customer projects and plant operations.

Prior knowledge of coatings chemistry, formulation, or application is preferred. Coil-applied coatings knowledge is a plus. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively are important. Adaptability to changing priorities is essential. The role involves utilizing training, past experience, product databases, and consulting with polymer chemists, physical & analytical chemists, and manufacturing staff.

Major Responsibilities include:

• Manufacturing Support: Assisting with lab work to troubleshoot production issues and updating formulas in the Oracle ERP system under supervision.
• Technical/Customer Support: Conducting experiments to resolve customer inquiries, evaluating test samples, providing samples to customers, and managing weathering tests.
• Product Development: Replacing obsolete raw materials, optimizing formulas for cost, and modifying formulas based on application changes.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Laboratory experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
