Job summary

College Possible Texas seeks a Development Capacity Builder VISTA Year 1 to strengthen fundraising, volunteer engagement, and communications infrastructure supporting college access for income-eligible students. The role builds durable systems, pilots tools, and transfers processes to staff for long-term use after the service year.

The VISTA will assess current practices, create repeatable workflows, develop onboarding resources, and establish clear ownership to sustain improvements over time.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and strengthen volunteer recruitment, onboarding, communication, engagement, and tracking practices.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in volunteer programs.
  • Develop standardized recruitment materials, onboarding checklists, orientation resources, communication templates, and tracking tools.
  • Pilot the new volunteer engagement system and refine it based on staff and volunteer feedback.
  • Document the final system in an implementation guide or SOP and train designated staff for ongoing maintenance.

Development Capacity Builder VISTA Year 1

The Development Capacity Builder VISTA will strengthen College Possible Texas' ability to sustain and expand college access and success services for income-eligible students by building durable fundraising, volunteer engagement, and communications systems. The VISTA will assess current practices, create and pilot repeatable tools and processes, and transfer them to staff for continued use after the service year. This work advances the VISTA mission of alleviating poverty by increasing the organization's capacity to secure and steward the resources, volunteers, and community support that help students pursue and complete postsecondary education.

Member Duties

The VISTA member will assess and strengthen College Possible Texas’s volunteer recruitment, onboarding, communication, engagement, and tracking practices. They will identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, analyze volunteer roles and recruitment sources, and develop a consistent workflow for engaging volunteers. The member will create standardized recruitment materials, onboarding checklists, orientation resources, communication templates, and tracking tools that staff can use across volunteer opportunities. They will pilot the new volunteer engagement system, collect feedback from staff and volunteers, and refine the process based on findings. The member will then document the final system in an implementation guide or SOP, train designated staff on the new processes, and establish clear ownership to support ongoing maintenance and improvement after the VISTA’s service year.
