Job summary

U.S.VETS in Hawaii seeks a Development & Communications Manager to lead fundraising, communications, and community engagement for the site, reporting to the Executive Director. The role focuses on expanding private revenue, managing events, and enhancing donor relations.

You will coordinate with national staff, volunteers, and local partners to raise support and awareness, while overseeing communications, social media, and public relations efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 3-5 years fundraising experience, including events, donor relations, and community engagement.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing donor and community relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities with strong time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative to create new fundraising opportunities.
  • Strong Microsoft Office, database, and administration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead general fundraising efforts to grow private revenue and meet annual goals.
  • Oversee signature events and donor stewardship, including logistics and sponsorships.
  • Manage site communications, public relations, social media, and website updates.
  • Identify prospects, conduct outreach, and coordinate donor messaging and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with National Development staff and advisory boards.

Development & Communications ManagerThe U.S.VETS – Development & Communications Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and is primarily responsible for management and expansion of U.S.VETS site fundraising, communications, and community engagement.FLSA Classification: ExemptResponsibilitiesGeneral Fundraising (80%)Work directly with Site Executive Director to oversee site fundraising, communications, community engagement and increase private revenue annually to meet projected goals. Current revenue exceeds $XX annually.Partner with National Development staff to execute and expand fundraising and communications activities, participate in national development calls, teleconferences, and meetingsManage all signature events, including administration, fundraising logistics and execution, secure and manage 3rd party, donor-hosted and other events as needed, working with Executive Director, Advisory Council, CommitteeLead growth of corporate fundraising through identification and direct solicitation of prospects for event sponsorships, in-kind and capital investmentsOversee all donor engagement; increase individual giving through donor solicitation and stewardship, and independent coordination of direct mail and e-appealsIdentify prospects for individual and corporate support, conduct prospect research, initiate, and conduct direct outreach and solicitation, independently and/or in partnership with senior leadershipServe as community representative, facilitate presentations for the Executive Director and program leadership, deliver presentations to local businesses, faith-based groups, and community associationsSecure in-kind contributions for events, programs, and facilities, including identifying and partnering with local community groups, businesses, and others to increase donationsEngage community and corporate volunteers, develop, and oversee individual and group volunteer projects, manage and steward volunteers on-site and at eventsUtilize Blackbaud RE NXT database to create records, record cash/in-kind contributions, send acknowledgments, and track actions and contactsMay provide supervisory oversight to development staff or volunteers to achieve division objectivesPerforms other duties as requiredCommunications (20%)Manage site communications, public relations, marketing and secure client success stories, develop all social media engagement, website updates, coordinate media and advertisingMaintain site development and communications calendar, report on site fundraising efforts to the National officeDevelop and manage branded collateral, presentations, marketing materials and communications; ensure consistent use of organization brand, mission, and messagingPerforms other duties as assignedRequirementsBachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate experience will be considered3-5 years fundraising experience, particularly including special events, individual and corporate givingAbility to exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing donor and community relationshipsInitiative to personally request and secure investments from individuals, corporations, and community groupsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage competing priorities, strong time management skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen to and effectively communicate with colleagues and donorsFlexibility, creativity, and initiative are required to create new opportunitiesStrong Microsoft Office, database, and administration skills
