Job summary

CASA of Los Angeles is seeking a Development and Communications Coordinator to provide administrative support to the development team while executing marketing and storytelling initiatives.

This position includes daily gift processing responsibilities such as entering donations into the donor database (Bloomerang), generating donor communications, and managing donor records with attention to confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented development professional with a track record of managing multiple workstreams in gift processing, administrative operations, communications, and event coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; one year of professional work experience in development, fundraising, gift processing, and/or event planning.
  • Proficiency with donor database software required or willingness to quickly master it.
  • Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools.
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to effectively use mail merge.
  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms preferred.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and social media etiquette.
  • Excellent ability to handle confidential and sensitive donor information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Deadline-oriented with excellent time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to thrive and work effectively with minimal supervision and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekend days.
  • Commitment to the goals and objectives of development and communications in respect to our mission, programs, values, and activities at CASA/LA.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Bloomerang donor records, daily gift processing, and data integrity.
  • Prepare reports and analyses for the Board of Directors, funders, and senior staff.
  • Coordinate and send donor solicitations, acknowledgements, stewardship correspondence, and thank you letters.
  • Collaborate with Communications to create fundraising materials, appeals, and donor-facing content.
  • Execute marketing and communications strategy, including social media management and newsletter development.
  • Create and design monthly newsletters using Canva; manage social media platforms with regular content.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services and Advocacy to gather impactful stories for fundraising and communications.
  • Develop marketing content for social media, newsletters, and fundraising emails.
  • Maintain organized files and systems for marketing assets and communications materials.
  • Support planning and execution of fundraising events, including CASA's annual gala and donor activities.

Job Title: Development and Communications Coordinator


Reports to: Director of Development


Employment status: Full-Time/Exempt or Non-Exempt


Location: Hybrid, Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Courthouse, Monterey Park, CA (at least three days a week in-office)

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development and Communications Coordinator will provide comprehensive administrative support for the development department while executing marketing and communications/storytelling initiatives. This position includes daily gift processing responsibilities such as entering donations into the donor database (Bloomerang), generating donor communications, and managing donor records with attention to confidentiality. The Coordinator will also support the development team through general administrative functions including running reports, event coordination support, maintaining data integrity across development platforms, and ensuring smooth departmental operations.


Additionally, this position will execute marketing and communications strategy by partnering with the Director of Development on social media content, a monthly newsletter, and other donor communications. They will assist in developing compelling stories that elevate the experiences and impact of CASA volunteers, youth, and community partners. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, deadline-orientation, professionalism, and a commitment to playing a key role in the development activities at CASA of LA. The ideal candidate is someone who is exceptionally organized, brings strong administrative capabilities, and can help tell CASA's story through various marketing channels.


Essential Functions

Development Operations


  • Oversee the donor database (Bloomerang), ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor records, daily gift processing, and data integrity.

  • Prepare reports and analyses for the Board of Directors, funders, and senior staff.

  • Coordinate and send donor solicitations, acknowledgements, stewardship correspondence, and thank you letters.

  • Collaborate with the Communications team to create compelling fundraising materials, appeals, and donor-facing content.


Communications & Marketing


  • Execute marketing and communications strategy in partnership with the Director of Development, including social media management and newsletter development.

  • Create and design monthly newsletters using Canva and other design tools; manage social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) with regular content and posts.

  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services and Advocacy teams to identify, gather, and develop impactful stories from CASA volunteers, youth experiences, advocates, staff, and community partners for fundraising and communications purposes. This may involve conducting interviews and collecting testimonials that demonstrate program impact.

  • Develop and organize marketing content, including graphics, copy, and materials for social media, newsletters, and fundraising emails.

  • Maintain organized files and systems for marketing assets and communications materials to ensure efficient access and consistency.


Event Management


  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including CASA's annual gala, donor engagement and recognition activities, and other special events.

  • Maintain event lists, sponsor details, RSVP tracking, and post-event follow-up communications.

  • Prepare event materials, registration lists, nametags, and other logistics as needed to support successful event execution.


Note: Performs other duties as assigned to support the needs and objectives of the organization. Event planning and execution may occasionally require evening or weekend availability.


Qualifications

Compensation


  • $68,000-72,000 Full-time, Exempt or Non-Exempt (based on experience and role scope). Final starting rates will be based on experience, skills, internal equity, and market factors.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Work Environment

  • The CASA/LA office is an open office layout. Candidates will be working in a shared space with varying levels of noise and foot traffic.
