Job description

US Ignite, a smart technology nonprofit based in Washington, DC, seeks a Developer to support the delivery of US Ignite’s software for a Common Operating Picture for military bases. This role will help expand how US Ignite’s software products help military bases make data-driven decisions to improve safety/emergency response and warfighter readiness, and manage facilities/infrastructure to lower costs and support quality of life.

This role will primarily support the Smart Installation and Community Dashboard (SICD) program, which US Ignite is executing at Fort Benning, GA, in support of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The program aims to create a digital toolbox that centralizes siloed installation data and provides a platform to build new apps to modernize installation functions rapidly. The platform is primarily based on the low/no-code industrial Internet of Things platform ThingWorx, though mission-specific tools are also a priority. The focus of this role will be to own priority upgrades to the platform and develop a diverse set of mission applications.

Salary range: $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience, education, and other qualifications. US Ignite also offers a competitive benefits package.

The Developer will support software development on multiple projects including Common Operating Pictures for both training/readiness and emergency operations, as well as mobile and user-configurable notifications, heat risk management, and other projects. This role will report to the Senior Technical Program Manager, Smart Bases.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Support development of US Ignite’s software products related to public safety, public works, and Army base operations, leveraging the ThingWorx low/no-code Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) software platform.
  • Operate as part of an agile scrum team, collaborating with product owners, platform engineers, data scientists, and other developers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • 3+ years in software development
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing (esp. AWS), DevSecOps tools/techniques (Docker, Rancher, Kubernetes, GitLab), and traditional software development tools/technologies outside of ThingWorx (e.g., Python, Node.js, Databricks)
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Applicants must have or be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC), and be able to access Army networks/systems including Vantage, which requires US citizenship
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ThingWorx and Kepware
  • Working knowledge of technical domains including IT/OT networking, cybersecurity, edge computing, IoT, software engineering, analytics, and system design/development
  • Working knowledge of GIS tools/technologies like Esri ArcGIS, Leaflet
  • Experience developing mature, production-ready AI products with appropriate guardrails
  • Prior experience supporting defense/government missions
