General Function

The Detroit SWIMS Entry Level Swim Instructor assists with swimming instruction and motivation for students.

Qualifications

• High school level education or equivalent (16+ years old)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications from Red Cross
• Obtain YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent after hire

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and conducting swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines
• Build relationships with students and parents
• Communicate program schedules and information
• Maintain records and attend staff meetings and training
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities

• Instruct and observe proper stroke techniques
• Lift equipment and small to medium children safely
