Job summary

Seward County is seeking a dedicated Sheriff Detention Officer to oversee inmates and maintain facility security. Responsibilities include monitoring inmate activities, conducting searches, recording incidents, and responding to emergencies with professionalism and fairness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior experience in law enforcement, security, or corrections is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security within the detention facility by monitoring inmate activities, conducting regular patrols, and enforcing rules and regulations.
• Conduct searches, both routine and targeted, to prevent contraband or unauthorized items.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, including incident reports, daily logs, and inmate counts.
• Respond promptly to any security breaches or emergencies, including fights, injuries, or medical emergencies.
• Provide assistance to inmates, including escorting to and from court appearances and medical appointments.
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure effective operation of the facility.
• Attend trainings and meetings to stay updated on policies and procedures.
• Uphold professional conduct and ethics, treating all individuals with dignity and fairness.
