Job summary

Seward County Detention Center is accepting applications for the position of a Corrections Officer. New starting wage: $25.50 or more per hour, depending on experience!

This is a direct contact entry-level position in a correctional facility. Work involves providing security and care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring inmate safety, enforcing rules and regulations, maintaining order, escorting inmates and supervising various inmate activities and programs.

Qualifications

• Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• Must be at least 19 years old
• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Must be jail certified or obtain jail certification within one year of employment
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Must be fingerprinted for a criminal history check and have no disqualifying convictions
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds

Responsibilities

• Provide security and care to incarcerated individuals and ensure inmate safety.
• Enforce rules and regulations and maintain order within the facility.
• Escort inmates and supervise various inmate activities and programs.
• Input observations into treatment and report to counseling, medical and supervisory staff.

This is a direct contact entry-level position in a correctional facility. Work involves providing security and care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring inmate safety, enforcing rules and regulations, maintaining order, escorting inmates, and supervising various inmate activities and programs. Wok also involves providing input into the treatment of individual inmates and the correctional facility population in general through reporting observations to counseling, medical and supervisory staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of a superior with work reviewed in the form of reports, conferences and observations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be legally able to work in the U.S.
• Must be at least 19 years of age or older
• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Must be jail certified or receive jail certification within one (1) year of employment in accordance with Nebraska Jail Standards. Seward County will assist an uncertified applicant/employee with obtaining this certification.
• Must have valid Driver’s License
• Must be fingerprinted at the time of employment and the fingerprints cards promptly submitted to the Nebraska State Patrol for a criminal history search: must not have had any convictions punishable by imprisonment in a federal or state penitentiary for one year or more unless pardon received.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
