Job summary

National Police seeks a supervisor to oversee inmates at the county jail. The role includes conducting initial and periodic searches, monitoring housing areas, and enforcing jail rules to keep staff and inmates safe.

Candidates should read and write proficiently, perform basic math, and have 1–2 years of related experience or an apprenticeship. A GA driver’s license and PSTC eligibility are required.

Job description

Salary: $22.30 per hour

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for supervising inmates at the county jail. Processes and performs initial and periodic searches of inmates; searches housing areas.

Essential Functions:

• Ensures the safety of facility, inmates, staff, and visitors. Administers emergency basic First Aid.
• Makes rounds of jail; monitors inmate physical and mental condition; supervises inmate meal consumption, personal hygiene, and related activities; enforces rules and regulations.
• Supervises and controls inmate behavior during day-to-day operations; restrains inmates as required.
• Maintains assigned weapon, equipment, and uniform.
• Takes charge of inmate personal property.
• Transports inmates to medical, court, and other appointments.
• Supervises and directs the work of inmate workers; transports inmate work details.
• Utilizes the inmate classification system to separate inmates based on physical, mental, and behavioral histories.
• Utilizes the records management system to enter and maintain records, visits, and shift logs.
• Processes incoming and outgoing mail for contraband.
• Maintains and update GCIC records. Investigates crimes and critical incidents.
• Enact emergency procedures in the event of riot, escape, or other critical incidents; serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
• Performs related duties.

Requirements:

• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
