Job summary

Augusta Richmond County seeks a Detention Center Security Support role to help maintain order and safety within the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

The position supports certified personnel and coordinates with law enforcement and agency staff to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and directives. Responsibilities include monitoring surveillance, controlling access, logging activities, and reporting emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or transcript with graduation date.
• No experience required; selected candidate will be trained.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history; if out-of-state license, must obtain in GA/SC within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor video surveillance and security intercoms; oversee radio transmissions.
• Control entry/exit gates and access for authorized vehicles with positive ID.
• Back up panel control of housing areas as needed.
• Notify authorities in emergencies (fire, ambulance, police).
• Maintain daily activity log (paper or computer).
• Keep Central Control area clean and orderly.
• Perform other duties of similar nature or level.

Job Description

General Summary: Maintains order and security in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center by supporting certified personnel in ensuring the safety and well-being of inmates, employees, and visitors within the guidelines of applicable state and federal laws, department directives, and rules and regulations. Reports to the Sergeant or other designated person and works with co-workers, inmates, attorneys, visitors, ministers, social workers, and probation, parole, court, police, and other agency personnel to provide operational support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Maintain and keep a watchful eye on all video surveillance monitors for security and internal and external radio transmissions pertaining to the facility. Maintain and monitor all security intercoms within the facility and in-house telephone system.


• Maintain control of all entry/exit gates to the perimeter of the facility including access of authorized vehicles to and from the facility only after positive identification. Works control panel for cells, entrance to cell block, emergency exits, and visitation/attorney area. Activate Jail security staff to any area of the facility where it appears that officer backup is required.


• Responsible for back up panel control of all housing areas as needed.


• Responsible for notifying the proper authorities in emergency situations. (IE: Fire, Ambulance, and Police).


• Maintain and keep a daily activity log, either written or computer generated to record movement and activity as specified in the Central Control Post Order.


• Maintain cleanliness of Central Control area.


• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

High School diploma, G.E.D., or Transcript with Grades and Graduation Date

No experience required. Selected candidate will be trained to successfully perform responsibilities of this position.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of law enforcement and the corrections process.


• Familiarity with applicable state and federal laws, county policies and procedures, and departmental directives.


• Proficiency in using GCIC/NCIC and JMS computer operations.


• Good communication skills, both oral and written.


• Demonstrated ability to work independently.


• Possess or have ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act.

Licensing

Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
