Job summary

Pinal County Sheriff's Office is seeking an entry/trainee Detention Officer for the Adult Detention Center. You will work under close supervision to maintain custody and security of inmates, staff, and facilities, and enforce policies.

After intake, you will attend a detention officer academy and complete field training. This safety‑sensitive role requires a high school diploma or GED, minimum 18 years old, a valid Arizona driver’s license, and successful background checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
• Arizona residents must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; within 30 days for new residents.
• Must pass a thorough background investigation; ACJIS background every 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Maintain custody and control of inmates according to policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Maintain safety and security of staff, inmates, and detention facilities.
• Supervise inmate activities and de-escalate potential disturbances.
• Provide equal protection and care for inmates, including transport and medical support.
• Maintain records, report issues, and follow post orders and standards.
