Job summary

Yellowstone County Sheriff's Department is seeking a Detention Officer to supervise inmates, manage intake and classification, and oversee daily activities to maintain order within the detention facility.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of tests and fitness evaluations. Employment offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time staff, including health and retirement plans.

Yellowstone County candidates for Detention Officer shall adhere to generally accepted business standards for appearance with respect to body art and physical alterations. Face, neck, and hand tattoos are not permitted.

Performs routine supervisory work in the safekeeping of prisoners in custody at the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility. Protects the well-being of prisoners overseeing them at meals, at activities and in their quarters; does related work as required.

Examples of Duties

Education/Experience/Training

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
• Recruitment & selection processes will involve a written test, oral interview, criminal background check, and general fitness evaluation process.
• Employees must have successfully completed and passed the required tests and fitness evaluation.

Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience in law enforcement, security or detention facility background desired.
