Job summary

Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Detention Deputy to support daily operations in the jail facilities located in Richmond, Texas. The role includes inmate classification, head counts, searches, and supervision of inmates to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Applicants must hold TCOLE Peace Officer Certification or be eligible for Texas Basic Police Academy; prior law enforcement or military background is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Applicant must hold Basic (or higher) TCOLE Peace Officer Certification, or be enrolled in Texas Basic Police Academy and eligible for Licensing Exam within 45 days.
• Preferred: 1 year law enforcement/peace officer duties; or 2 years military service with honorable discharge; or 30 college credits with GPA 2.0+.

Responsibilities

• Conducts head counts and door checks regularly.
• Classifies inmates, fingerprints, and completes required paperwork.
• Restrains inmates when needed and maintains safe custody.
• Supervises feeding, hygiene, and recreational activities.
• Logs inmate activities and assists other staff as needed.
• Notifies supervisor of criminal activity, contraband or escapes.
