Job summary

Vance County's Detention Department seeks an Assistant Detention Center Administrator to assist in directing operations of the County Detention Center and oversee inmate processing, security, and staff coordination.

The role involves planning shifts, enforcing policies, guiding training, evaluating performance, and maintaining records; candidates must meet state certification requirements and hold an Associate’s Degree in criminal justice or related field.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Requires an Associate’s Degree in criminal justice or related field, and seven years of related experience, or equivalent.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license, North Carolina Detention Officer Certification, and meeting state standards for detention facility personnel.
• Special Requirements: None.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: broad range of government operations, policy, and correctional administration knowledge; strong leadership and communication.

Responsibilities

• Direct staff and shifts to ensure security and inmate management.
• Assist in planning intake, food service, care and release of inmates.
• Ensure equipment security and maintenance; maintain inventory and controls.
• Participate in recruitment, performance appraisal, training, and staff development.
• Review shift reports and ensure policy compliance and program effectiveness.
• Respond to inmate grievances and coordinate with law enforcement and detention centers.
