Job summary

Horry County Detention Center seeks a dedicated Correctional Officer to supervise inmates and maintain safety within the detention facility. The role requires completion of pre-service training, field training, and academy programs, with ongoing in-service training to uphold certifications.

Responsibilities include overseeing housing units, performing searches, managing inmate movements, and responding to emergencies while maintaining accurate records and reports for facility operations.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age.
• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
• Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing pre-service, Field Training and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Basic Jail Program.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inmates in housing units, conduct searches for contraband, perform inmate counts, supervise meals, conduct watch tours, maintain housing unit records, and ensure orderly housing unit operations.
• Provide custody and security of offenders including performing pat and strip searches, restraining inmates as needed, and transporting offenders by walking or in vehicles.
• Supervise inmates performing skills such as construction, maintenance, laundry, food service, lawn maintenance and cleaning tasks.
• Respond to emergencies, including first aid, coordinating with others, and using force or restraints when necessary.
• Read, review and apply information from offender records related to health, safety and security; enforce disciplinary rules; prepare and maintain records, forms and reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
