Job summary

Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office invites applications for a Custody Support Assistant in Gunnison, CO. This civilian, non-sworn role supports detention operations, monitors security systems, manages records, and assists with inmate processing.

You will work in a secure environment, coordinating with staff and maintaining calm under pressure. Shifts are 12 hours with a rotating schedule, typically 14 days per month, offering strong benefits and a path to stability in public safety.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years old at time of employment.
• Have a high school diploma or GED.
• English communication (written and verbal).
• Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Able to work within a secure detention facility.
• Complete the required pre-employment screening and Sheriff’s Office background investigation.
• Complete ICS-100 and IS-700 within the first year of employment.
• One year of clerical/administrative/records management/customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Detention Center control tower and monitor security cameras, intercoms, telephones, computer systems, and activity.
• Control secure doors and access points and communicate safety information to staff.
• Support inmate booking, release paperwork, and records processing.
• Enter, review, and maintain logs, forms, files, and databases; assist with property records.
• Coordinate visitation, court appearances, transports, attorney visits, and other activities.
• Answer phones and assist the public; provide operational support to detention staff.
• Follow procedures during facility emergencies and support overall safety and security.
