Job summary

Eagle County Government’s Eagle County Sheriff’s Office seeks a Detentions Case Manager to bridge incarceration and community reintegration. You will assess inmates’ needs, secure post-release housing and employment, and coordinate volunteer programming to support reentry.

The role blends advocacy, strategy, and community-building within the jail setting. The position offers a schedule of Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with some daytime flexibility.

Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in case management, social services, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or related field is highly preferred.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred and qualifies for bilingual pay incentive.
  • Travel: Valid driver’s license and travel throughout Eagle River Valley for community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Inmate Reentry & Advocacy (The Core) – assess and plan with inmates to evaluate social, mental, and physical needs and map a success plan.
  • Connect to Resources – partner with community organizations, treatment facilities, and housing/employment resources.
  • Coordinate Releases – assist inmates with housing, healthcare, and post-release services for a smooth return.
  • Navigate Barriers – provide non-judgmental guidance to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.
  • Volunteer Program Leadership – oversee jail programming and coordinate the volunteer network.
  • Onboard & Train – lead facility tours, orientations, and manage secure volunteer files.
  • Ensure Smooth Operations – direct weekly schedules and address volunteer-related concerns.

Job description

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Detentions Case Manager who will serve as a crucial bridge between incarceration and a successful, stable return to our community.

In this role, you are a strategist, an advocate, and a community builder. You will work directly with inmates to assess their needs, secure post-release housing and employment, and navigate the systemic barriers to reentry. In addition, you will help coordinate our jail's volunteer program—onboarding, orienting, and managing the passionate community volunteers who bring life-changing programming inside our walls.

Hiring Range: $30.21-$36.25. (The maximum pay for this position is $42.29).

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm. Slight flexibility can be offered, but employee should be in the office during daytime business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inmate Reentry & Advocacy (The Core)
  • Assess & Plan: Interview inmates to evaluate their social, mental, and physical needs while incarcerated, helping them establish a roadmap for success.
  • Connect to Resources: Build robust partnerships with community organizations, treatment facilities, and local housing/employment resources.
  • Coordinate Releases: Assist inmates with applications for housing, healthcare, and vital post-release services so they have a soft landing on day one of their release.
  • Navigate Barriers: Provide non-judgmental guidance and creative problem-solving to help inmates overcome immediate roadblocks to self-sufficiency.
  • Volunteer Program Leadership
  • Manage & Mentor: Partner with the Administrative Supervisor to oversee jail programming and serve as the central contact for our volunteer network.
  • Onboard & Train: Lead facility tours, run orientations, and coordinate secure files for incoming volunteers.
  • Ensure Smooth Operations: Direct weekly schedules, address day-to-day volunteer concerns, and keep everyone up to date on jail security procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in case management, social services, criminal justice, or related field, or equivalent education, training and experience that produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.. Previous case management, social work, or human services experience is preferred.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Bilingual Skills: Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred and qualifies for our county bilingual pay incentive!
  • Travel: A valid driver\'s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record. This role involves travel throughout the beautiful Eagle River Valley for community outreach.

  • Teamwork & Relationships: Ability to work seamlessly within a multidisciplinary team of security personnel, medical staff, and outside providers.
  • Cultural Competence: Willingness to establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with clients from a diverse population and backgrounds.

Law Enforcement Background & Screening Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a detailed background investigation, polygraph test, psychological exam, physical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Must not have used illegal drugs within the past 3 years, or marijuana within the past 1 year.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felonies or any acts involving domestic violence.
  • Application must list the past 10 years of continuous work experience.
