Job summary

Under direct supervision, the Deputy Sheriff - Detention Cadet is responsible for controlling, securing and managing inmates at Bexar County jail facilities. The role supports the Adult Detention Center and Jail Annex under experienced officers and involves routine duties to maintain order and safety.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, ability to read logs and SOPs, strong communication skills, a valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or GED.
• Knowledge of jail environment work and safety standards.
• Ability to read and understand logs, SOPs and inmate documents.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Must have a valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship.
• Must pass background checks, medical and fitness tests.

Responsibilities

• Controls, secures and manages inmates at the Adult Detention Center and Jail Annex.
• Supervises inmates assigned to work detail such as meals, laundry and maintenance.
• Books and classifies inmates.
• Transfers and transports inmates.
• Performs inmate inspections, searches and routine room checks.
• Responds to crises and restrains disruptive inmates as needed.
• Assists inmates with personal needs and documentation.
• Completes required paperwork on inmates and jail events.
