Job summary

A cybersecurity firm is seeking a Detection Engineer in Tampa, FL. You will be a subject matter expert in cybersecurity detections, responsible for developing and documenting detection capabilities. Ideal candidates have experience with MSSP environments, proficiency with SIEM tools like Splunk, and an innovative approach to solving complex problems. This role offers a salary range of $94,500 - $118,700 plus stock options and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must develop detections for attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Ability to investigate and create security rules in at least one SIEM is required.
  • Up-to-date with engineering best practices, security technology trends, tools, and frameworks.

  • Work with customers to develop a comprehensive strategy for effective detections.
  • Evaluate current monitoring and detection capabilities to identify improvement areas.

Detection Engineer

Hybrid Tampa, FL

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Threat Detection & Research, the Detection Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert in cybersecurity detections. The individual will participate in detection strategy, creation, tuning, validation, and correlation to ensure that Deepwatch customers have effective detections in place against an ever‑changing threat landscape. Detection Engineers increase alert fidelity, reduce false positives, and better inform MDR Security Analysts, directly impacting customer security posture over time.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and document new Detection Capabilities for customer environments
  • Work with customers to develop a comprehensive strategy for effective detections
  • Leverage industry frameworks, such as MITRE ATT&CK Framework, for customer‑facing alert improvement roadmap
  • Apply knowledge of detection tools (Azure logging, command line logging, etc.) to advise customers on logging capabilities
  • Prioritize log sources for ingestion and enablement
  • Evaluate current monitoring and detection capabilities to identify improvement areas
  • Manage detection capabilities to ensure coverage, effective operation, and adherence to Deepwatch standards
  • Ensure ingested log sources conform to CIM standards
Qualifications
  • Experience working for a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) or similar cybersecurity organization
  • Experience querying SIEM tools or other log‑based data, preferably Splunk
  • Experience engineering event detection & response tuning
  • Creative, scalable, out‑of‑the‑box solutions mindset
  • Up‑to‑date with engineering best practices, security technology trends, tools, and frameworks
  • Experience developing detections for attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
  • Ability to investigate and create security rules in at least one SIEM
  • Understanding of general enterprise network architecture and incident response
  • Understanding of common enterprise technologies and logging capabilities including Cloud, IDS/IPS, Firewalls, Active Directory, Anti‑Virus/EDR, Proxies, and Email Gateway
  • Knowledge of attack frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, Cyber Kill Chain, and NIST
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills for varied audiences
Statutory Pay Disclosure

The anticipated salary range for this role is $94,500 - $118,700 plus stock options and benefits. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
