Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a Detailer/MEP BIM professional to create and coordinate shop drawings and 3D models for major projects. You will support HVAC, piping, plumbing, and sheet metal layouts, while maintaining document control to ensure accuracy and accessibility across teams.

Responsibilities include advancing 3D BIM modeling, coordinating with contractors, and guiding less experienced teammates to meet project milestones and deliverables.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED with 4 years related experience or completed trade apprenticeship with 2 years field experience.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents.
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creation, coordination, and management of shop drawings and BIM modeling for MEP systems.
  • Lead and train less experienced detailers; coordinate across project teams to meet deliverables.
  • Support on projects by receiving, logging, tracking, expediting, and distributing documentation (RFI’s, shop drawings).
  • Provide advanced 3D modeling using BIM and coordinate MEP details with General Contractor and trades.

Job description

Supports construction projects through the creation, coordination, and management of shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP systems. Collaborates across teams, contributes to project efficiency and accuracy.

  • Provides advanced support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings, RFI’s and other construction project documentation.
  • Creates advanced shop drawings for mechanical systems in major construction projects.
  • Creates equipment, room layout and detail drawings.
  • Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
  • Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Provides advanced 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Participates in construction and other meetings as required, collaborates with project team to ensure a successful product.
  • Serves as lead to less experienced team members and delegates work as needed.
  • Assists with design pull schedule to direct the model development to meet deliverables.
  • Assists with budget and cost accountability.
  • May lead the final trade coordination and sign-off process in conjunction with the General Contractor.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED and 4 years of related experience or trade apprentice program completion and 2 years of related field experience
  • Field Foreman/General Foreman preferred
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
  • Solid understanding of craft
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
  • Ability to coordinate projects
  • Ability to train less experienced Detailers
  • Working knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
