Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an entry-level detailing specialist to support construction projects by creating and coordinating shop drawings, BIM models, and MEP systems. You will work across teams to improve project efficiency and accuracy.

Responsibilities include logging and distributing drawings, basic 3D modeling, and participating in meetings. This role offers growth within a leading 100% employee-owned MEP company.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; 0–2 years detailing experience.
  • Basic verbal and written communication; ability to edit content.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents.
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods.
  • Proficiency with AEC/BIM software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

  • Receives, logs, tracks, expedites and distributes shop drawings and project docs.
  • Creates basic shop drawings.
  • Maintains document control so information is retrievable and understood by others.
  • Aims to reduce time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Performs basic 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Attends and participates in construction and other meetings as required.
  • Collaborates with design and build teams to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws.

Position Details
  • Provides basic support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings, and other construction project documentation.
  • Creates basic shop drawings.
  • Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
  • Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
  • Provides MEP coordination.
  • Provides basic 3D modeling using BIM.
  • Attends and participates in construction and other meetings as required.
  • Collaborates with design and build team to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws.
Qualifications
  • High School or GED and 0-2 years of detailing experience or currently enrolled in trade apprenticeship program
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
  • Basic understanding of craft
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
  • Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
