Job summary

Southland Industries in Houston, TX seeks an entry-level detailer to support shop drawings, BIM modeling and basic MEP coordination. You will manage documentation, log and track drawings, and collaborate with design and build teams to minimize construction errors.

Qualifications

• High school or GED and 0-2 years detailing experience or current in apprenticeship.
• Basic verbal and written communication skills required.
• Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
• Basic understanding of craft and ability to read construction docs.
• Knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal and field installation methods.
• Familiarity with Navisworks, Revit and AutoCAD is expected.

Responsibilities

• Assist with shop drawings, BIM modeling and basic MEP coordination.
• Receive, log, track, expedite and distribute shop drawings and docs.
• Maintain document protocols for easy retrieval by others.
• Attend meetings and collaborate to reduce design/construction errors.
• Collaborate with design and build teams to minimize construction issues.

Position Summary

Supports construction projects through the creation, coordination, and management of shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP systems. Collaborates across teams, contributes to project efficiency and accuracy.

Position Details

• Provides basic support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings, and other construction project documentation.
• Creates basic shop drawings.
• Maintains a protocol of documents in such a way that information can be retrieved and understood by others.
• Achieves reduced time/costs related to potential errors of clash detection.
• Provides MEP coordination.
• Provides basic 3D modeling using BIM.
• Attends and participates in construction and other meetings as required.
• Collaborates with design and build team to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and 0-2 years of detailing experience or currently enrolled in trade apprenticeship program
• Basic verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to write, edit and proofread content.
• Basic understanding of craft
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
• Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods
• Attention to detail
• Basic knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
