Job summary

Cspeed is seeking a senior engineer to own the detachable optical interface for CspeedIO engines. You will define the detachability point, coupling optics, and alignment strategy to enable known-good-engine qualification and subassembly testing.

The role emphasizes tolerance budgeting, repeatability across mating cycles, and OSAT transfer to high-volume production. Strong collaboration across lab and production sites is required.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6 years in optical or photonic packaging or optical interconnect with ownership of an optical interface from development to production.
• Direct experience with fiber-optic connector technology and mate/demate qualification.
• Tolerance stack analysis and GD&T for sub-micron optical interfaces using statistical methods.
• Experience with fiber-to-chip coupling physics: mode field matching, collimation, and return loss.
• Hands-on optical metrology: tunable sources, power meters, interferometric inspection of interfaces.
• Experience qualifying optical interfaces against connector reliability standards.
• Willingness to work in both lab and production environments; professional English across distributed sites.

Responsibilities

• Define the location of the detachability point and the partition between permanently attached and mateable plug.
• Define the coupling optics for the detachable path and the tolerance trade-offs.
• Establish the alignment strategy using lithographically defined PIC features, datums, guide pins or V-groove references.
• Own the insertion loss budget and per-port loss distribution; ensure repeatability across mate/demate cycles.
• Qualify reflow survivability and compatibility with OSAT assembly flows.
• Define automated mating requirements and maintenance of Cpk on placement and coupling loss.
• Coordinate with test architecture to ensure known-good-engine test capability.
• Transfer the optical interface design into production with partners.
