Position Summary: The Desktop Engineer will design, validate and deploy technical solutions to maintain, improve and evolve the company’s end user computing environment. They develop and maintain designs and solutions to maximize reliability, performance and efficiency. The Desktop Engineer evaluates and translates requirements into design, evaluates design benefits and tradeoffs, validates design compliance and supports deployment of the design to ensure requirements were met. Development of tools may be required to most efficiently address technical or business challenges including technology evolution, capacity management and performance optimization. Strong user documentation and presentation skills are necessary to convey design benefits to a wide range of audiences, as well as understanding the implications of their work and making recommendations for solutions.

Technical Engineering Services:

  • Serve as technology engineer for the foundational components, interactions, dependencies, and tools vital for comprehensive system design.
  • Formulate and enhance procedures to validate, improve, and optimize end-user computing environments.
  • Lead others through various scenarios and explain the variance and impact.
  • Prepare vital user documentation to support environment and customer experience changes.
  • Build appropriate validation tests and efficiently document results.
  • Engage in independent study of current technology to maintain a good understanding of adjacent processes and workflows.
  • Analyze and translate data to identify trends and environmental threats within the end user computing repositories.
  • Develop, design and implement new processes and technologies to improve end user computing systems, processes, and services.
  • Analyze existing processes and vendor roadmaps and highlight technology advances critical to effective management and creating efficiencies.
  • Improve designs, processes, or products by reducing cost and improving efficiency and/or quality.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and product and process improvement dialogues.

Technical Writing & Presentation:

  • Write sophisticated technical documentation that outlines the architecture, capabilities, limitations, and benefits of end-user computing technologies.
  • Create and modifies clear documentation on existing and new systems.
  • Design and communicate technical system specifications and business requirements.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Supervise and stay informed about relevant industry technologies and standards. Present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical decision-makers.
  • Continuously learn, build content, and mentor others in specific subject areas.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and apply system expertise to deliver technical solutions.
  • Influence technology and policy decisions made across the appropriate functional organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, IT, or a related field required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of technical engineering experience required in designing and implementing solutions with a focus on end user computer environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python) to automate deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Experience managing Active Directory environments and creating or modifying group policies to enforce security and configuration standards.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware/Omnissa, Citrix, or Nutanix/AHV.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based endpoint management tools and services (e.g. Microsoft Azure, Office 365).
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, VPNs, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions to ensure secure and reliable system operations.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Zabbix, SolarWinds, Nagios, or Splunk) to proactively identify and resolve system issues.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of end-user computing parameters and configurations, with proficiency in Windows Operating Systems, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments, and tools including Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Intune/Autopilot for optimal system management.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
