Job summary

Craftsmen Industries in St. Charles, MO is seeking a Designer for a 3-month temporary assignment to support Engineering and Design with mechanical design, drafting, and detailing for custom trailers and mobile solutions.

You will work under a Project or Design Engineer, interfacing with production and purchasing to deliver components and assemblies. The role requires an Associate's degree or equivalent, 2–4 years in large assembly design, strong SOLIDWORKS skills (sheet metal/weldments),

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience, technical training or certification.
• 2-4 years large assembly design experience, including fabrication, sheet metal, and machined parts.
• Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS with emphasis on sheet metal and weldments.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and reference standards, and AWS D1.1 and 1.2.
• Proficiency in MSOffice applications.
• Must demonstrate a consistent and stable work history, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following company safety policies, OSHA standards, and proper use of PPE.
• Create mechanical drawings based upon 3D model geometry.
• Work with manufacturing to guide and assist in fabrication, assembly, and installation of the designed systems.
• Assist in improvement of product designs and overall finished product quality.
• Work effectively in a project team environment.
• Participate in design reviews.

Craftsmen Industries custom manufactures unique specialty trailers and vehicles and large format printed elements for experiential marketing and industrial solutions for brands across the industry spectrum including Boeing, PepsiCo, and Anheuser-Busch. Our Craftsmen team includes one subsidiary, Schantz Manufacturing. Schantz focuses on custom manufacturing of concession trailers for the fair and festival industry.

Position Title: Designer

Location: St. Charles, MO

Position Summary:

This is a 3-month temporary assignment supporting the Engineering and Design teams with mechanical design, drafting, and detailing activities for a custom manufacturing project. Under the guidance of a Project or Design Engineer, the Designer will be responsible for the mechanical design and detailing of components and assemblies for a wide range of custom mobile solutions including trailers, truck bodies, and shelters/containers. This position will interface with other engineering resources and the functional areas of production and purchasing of materials.

Job Responsibilities:

Required Skills:

• Associate's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience, technical training or certification.
• 2 - 4 years large assembly design experience, including fabrication, sheet metal, and machined parts.
• Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS with an emphasis on sheet metal and weldments.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and reference standards, and AWS D1.1 and 1.2.
• Proficiency in MSOffice applications.
• Must demonstrate a consistent and stable work history, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• 1 - 2 years custom truck, 5th wheel and/or drawbar, or RV design experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting, standing, and walking in office, warehouse and manufacturing environments.
• Ability to climb in and out of trailers, scaffolding and up ladders.
• Ability to bend, lift, and position self to move about the office, as needed.
• Required to stand, walk, and use fingers and hands.
• Vision abilities required by this job include close and/or color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Ascend/descend on ladders and move around within custom mobile solutions.
• Must be able to position self to move, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must have the ability to hear and respond to auditory signals, distinguish tones and pitches in equipment, and use hearing protection during specific tasks.
