Job summary

ThirdLove in San Francisco seeks a Designer - Innovation and Product Development to originate and develop new construction methods, fabrics, and technical solutions for intimate apparel. What We Are Looking For

This role supports product innovation for Thirdlove, ideating new concepts and translating them into breakthrough fit, construction and material solutions that set new standards for how intimate apparel looks, feels, and performs. As Designer - Innovation and Product Development, success means originating and developing new construction methods, fabrications and technical solutions from concept sketch through prototype iteration to final production handoff that solve real fit and comfort challenges for our customers. This role sits at the intersection of design and product development, partnering closely with technical, sourcing and production to ensure every innovative idea is both beautifully realized and commercially viable. By pioneering new product and construction possibilities, this role gives Thirdlove a distinct competitive edge in fit, comfort and product performance.

What You Will Own And How You Will Make A Difference

1. Product Design & Innovation
   • Expected Outcome/Deliverable: Research, design and pioneer intimate apparel collections, taking ownership of high impact innovation styles. Own the development process by translating initial sketches into precise technical flats and design sheets, while maintaining up-to-date Bills of Materials (BOMs) and line sheets in the PLM system.
   • Link to Business Goals: Drives brand differentiation and market growth by delivering unique, high quality products that meet the evolving needs of the Thirdlove customer.
2. Fit & Product Development Execution
   • Expected Outcome/Deliverable: Partner closely with the Technical Design team during product reviews and fittings to guide garments from initial prototype to production approved sample that achieves intended fit, construction and material execution. Maintain clear, consistent communication with vendors and factory partners throughout development to troubleshoot issues and drive samples to on time delivery.
   • Link to Business Goals: Guarantees superior garment construction, durability, and premium product quality, protecting Thirdlove's reputation for market leading fit and reducing return rates.
3. Seasonal Concepting
   • Expected Outcome/Deliverable: Create end-to-end seasonal concept and color direction. This includes conducting comprehensive market analysis, translating seasonal themes into mood boards and color palettes, partnering with the Merchandising team to strategically define product assortments and owning the maintenance of color charts, print development and final color approvals.
   • Link to Business Goals: Establishes a cohesive visual identity and strategic aesthetic groundwork each season, ensuring our assortments remain fresh, on-trend, and aligned with commercial goals.
4. Cross-Functional Presentation & Alignment
   • Expected Outcome/Deliverable: Effectively communicate seasonal themes and present innovative product concepts to cross-functional partners through the creation and presentation of elevated design assets. Lead the final product handoff to the Creative and Marketing teams, providing crucial alignment on key design features, innovation highlights, material details and color accuracy for all creative and digital assets.
   • Link to Business Goals: Ensures a seamless transition from product creation to customer-facing channels, guaranteeing that what the customer sees online and in-stores accurately represents the premium quality of the product, thereby building brand trust, integrity, and consistency.

Who You Work With

• Technical Design Team: Core strategic partnership to guide garments from initial prototype to production approved samples. Collaborate on fit notes, carry out wear testing, and establish alignment on construction techniques and fit intent.
• Production Team: Collaborative relationship focused on ensuring consistency across trim quality, material performance, and fabric execution to maintain the high standards of the product during manufacturing. Align on cost optimization and development timelines to ensure collections are both commercially viable and delivered on schedule.
• Merchandising Team: Cross-functional partnership to align creative design direction and commercial goals, defining well curated product assortments relevant to business strategy. Collaborate on forward-looking innovation, analyzing future consumer needs and initiating concepts to proactively meet them.
• Creative & Marketing Teams: Strategic alignment to bridge the gap between product creation and customer-facing channels, driving the successful commercial launch of each collection. Provide all essential product information, key feature breakdowns, and color guidelines, empowering the Creative team to build assets that beautifully and accurately represent the product.
