Job summary

Oak Street Design LLC in Michigan is seeking a Designer I for a full-time, in-office role at our studio, reporting to the Director of Design. You will produce architectural/construction plans and manage small projects from concept through construction documents, while coordinating with consultants and clients.

You will also lead client meetings, participate in site measures, and mentor Junior Designers, helping drive design direction and quality across assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or a related design field is required; a Master's degree in architecture is preferred.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in residential design or architecture, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships concurrently.
  • Ability to read and interpret various types of architectural plans.
  • Distinctly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to detect and correct design flaws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both within the OSD team and externally with clients and other professionals.
  • Self-starter who is intrinsically motivated and works well both in a team and autonomously.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; note any experience with SketchUp, Enscape, Lumion or similar rendering software.

Responsibilities

  • Produce architectural/construction plans and renovation design drafts for new construction homes and renovation/addition projects, for Director of Design and client approval.
  • Rework and modify designs based on comments and reviews from the Director of Design and clients.
  • Ensure that all architectural plans are compliant with industry codes, safety standards and municipal regulations.
  • Serve as day-to-day lead for assigned small-scale projects, managing scope, schedule, deliverables and documentation from concept through construction documents and flagging concerns to the Director of Design.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations and site measures for assigned projects, translating client goals and feedback into design direction.
  • Coordinate with consultants, builders, municipal reviewers and external Architects, Designers and Engineers to keep projects on schedule.
  • Research and incorporate artistic elements into designs and produce occasional 3D renderings for client presentations.
  • Mentor and review the work of the Junior Designer and Intern Designer; assist with firm marketing initiatives (graphic design, photography, deliverables).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

A full-time, in-office position at our Michigan studio, reporting to the Director of Design.
