Job summary

D.L. George & Sons is seeking a Designer/Drafter II to convert customer specifications into manufacturing‑ready plans. You will create machining, fabrication and assembly drawings and generate bills of materials from data using CAD.

The ideal candidate has proven drafter/designer experience, strong CAD and 3D modeling skills, excellent math abilities, and the ability to communicate clearly with customers and the operations team to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or vocational training with 3–5 years on-the-job experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with project coordinators and customers to gather design requirements.
• Prepare and review rough sketches for approval.
• Calculate dimensions, weights and material requirements.
• Create detailed drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Verify drawings meet customer and quality standards.
• Identify manufacturing issues with the operations team.

As a Designer/Drafter II you will play a critical role in the overall success of the D.L. George family of companies by converting customer supplied specifications and designs to plans for manufacturing.

The responsibilities of a Designer/Drafter II will include, but not be limited to; converting customer supplied designs into machining, fabrication and assembly drawings. The creation of bills of materials by gathering material and product data, calculating dimensions and generating 3D models using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a drafter/designer, proficiency with CAD software and 3D modeling tools, excellent math skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Along with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly to customers and the operational team.

Designer/Drafter Skills & Attributes:

• Proven work experience as a drafter/designer or similar role.
• Experience with CAD software.
• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools.
• Excellent math skills.
• Working knowledge of weld and machining symbols.
• Excellent understanding of the fabrication and machining process.
• Knowledge of material specifications and grades.
• Ability to meet deadlines.

Designer/Drafter Responsibilities and Duties:

• Communicate with project coordinators and customers to gather, design, structural and product requirements for design.
• Prepare and review rough sketches for customer and engineer approval.
• Calculate dimensions, weights and material requirements.
• Create detailed drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Verify drawings and designs meet customer and quality standards.
• Identify possible manufacturing issues related to design with the help of the operational team.
• Review customer and internal designs for cost reduction possibilities.
• Creation of cut files to be used in the manufacturing process.

Designer/Drafter Required Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree in related field, or, Vocational training and 3-5 years of on the job training.
