Job summary

Pike Engineering in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a senior Designer to provide technical leadership in structural design. This fourth level role requires solving complex problems, developing advanced skills, and working with minimal supervision on projects in the utility sector.

You will produce detailed drawings, 3D models, and fabrication drawings, ensure accurate reports, and support the company’s goals while communicating effectively with diverse teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience with BS in Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
• 10+ years with AS in Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
• 15+ years experience with no degree
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Experience in the utility industry
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to lead and work independently

• Provide technical expertise to identify, analyze and resolve problems
• Plan, organize, estimate, schedule and monitor work activities
• Prepare thorough technical reports, drawings and calculations

Position Overview:

This is the fourth level of the Designer classification. Provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and provide leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under minimal direct supervision, in the area of expertise will provide:

• technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
• effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
• thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, drawings and sketches
• continuous improvement of job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• effective oral and written communication skills
• accurate records and files
• support of the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Requirements

• 8 or more years’ experience and Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 10 or more years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 15 or more years equivalent experience with no degree.
• Basic proficiency in Autocad and/or Microstation
• Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in the utility industry.
• Strong AutoCAD structural design experience able to do the following.
• Design and detail steel and rebar.
• Create steel fabrication drawings.
• Design and detail foundations and drilled piers.
• Creating 3D models and Autodesk Inventor experience would be preferred.
