Job summary

Pike Engineering seeks a senior engineer to provide technical leadership in complex design projects within the utility sector. The incumbent will develop advanced skills and work with minimal supervision, mentoring others and guiding technical decisions.

Responsibilities include planning, problem solving, producing detailed drawings, and maintaining project documentation while contributing to continuous improvement and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering Technology or equivalent with 8+ years experience, or AS with 10+ years, or 15+ years with no degree.
• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
• Experience in the utility industry is preferred.
• Strong AutoCAD structural design experience and ability to design and detail steel/rebar.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing and resolving problems.
• Plan, organize, estimate, schedule and monitor work activities.
• Prepare thorough technical reports, drawings and documentation.
• Pursue continuous improvement in knowledge, skills and performance.

Job description

This is the fourth level of the Designer classification. Provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and provide leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under minimal direct supervision, in the area of expertise will provide:

• technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
• effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
• thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, drawings and sketches
• continuous improvement of job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
• effective oral and written communication skills
• accurate records and files
• support of the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Requirements

• 8 or more years' experience and Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 10 or more years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 15 or more years equivalent experience with no degree.
• Basic proficiency in Autocad and/or Microstation
• Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in the utility industry.
• Strong AutoCAD structural design experience able to do the following.
• Design and detail steel and rebar.
• Create steel fabrication drawings.
• Design and detail foundations and drilled piers.
• Creating 3D models and Autodesk Inventor experience would be preferred.
