Job description

TCF Architecture is located in the heart of Tacoma’s Historic Stadium District. We are a team of hard-working, creative professionals who believe design has the power to strengthen communities. Our collaborative studio culture is rooted in quality, accountability, and a shared commitment to improving the places where people live, learn, and work.

As an award-winning firm of 54, TCF serves Educational, Civic, Industrial/Maintenance, Transportation, and Administrative clients across the Pacific Northwest. Our work spans waterfront campuses, workforce education facilities, and civic spaces that strengthen community life, each project shaped by thoughtful collaboration and inspired pragmatism. We believe architecture succeeds when it balances beauty, performance, and long-term value for the people and communities it serves.

We offer meaningful opportunities for professional growth, leadership, and impact. If you are passionate about thoughtful design and committed to delivering exceptional service, we invite you to join our team.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Designer to join our Tacoma studio. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or an emerging professional with up to five years of experience who enjoys the technical side of architecture and wants to build strong skills in construction documentation. Working alongside Job Captains and Project Architects, you will help turn design intent into clear, coordinated, and buildable drawings, and produce renderings that help clients and stakeholders understand the design.

You will receive day-to-day mentorship from experienced staff and gain exposure to every phase of a project, from design development through construction. We will support your progress toward licensure through AXP and the ARE.

Position Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of construction documents, including plans, sections, elevations, wall sections, and details.
  • Produce high-quality renderings, 3D views, and presentation graphics for client, user group, and community meetings.
  • Build and maintain Revit models and drawing sheets consistent with firm standards.
  • Develop construction details and research building materials, products, assemblies, and systems.
  • Research code and accessibility requirements and apply them in the drawings with guidance from the project team.
  • Pick up redlines and assist with drawing coordination, consultant backgrounds, and internal quality control reviews.
  • Assist with permit submittals and responses to jurisdictional review comments.
  • Maintain organized project files and communicate proactively with team members on task status and questions.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • 0–5 years of professional experience in an architectural office; internships and co-op experience count.
  • Working proficiency in Revit.
  • Strong rendering and visualization skills using tools such as Lumion, or D5 Render, demonstrated in your portfolio.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; SketchUp or Rhino a plus.
  • Understanding of building construction, materials, and assemblies, and an interest in detailing.
  • Foundational knowledge of building codes and accessibility standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Clear written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
  • Interest in pursuing architectural licensure; enrollment in AXP is encouraged and supported.
  • Hard-working, positive attitude with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.

If you don’t meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. Aptitude and enthusiasm matter.

Why Join TCF

At TCF, we believe great design grows from strong relationships and clear communication. We are intentional problem-solvers who approach complex projects with pragmatism and creativity. Our work reflects a balance of thoughtful stewardship, technical rigor, and lasting impact.

This position is based in our Tacoma studio. To support collaboration, mentorship, and project coordination, team members are expected to work in the office a minimum of four days per week (Monday through Thursday). New team members work in the office all five days during the initial 90-day introductory period.

In addition to a collaborative studio environment and meaningful opportunities for professional development, we support a healthy work/life balance.
