Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. seeks a CAD Designer to develop panel layouts, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics and P&ID’s for control systems. The role includes creating general arrangements and other electrical plans for upgrade projects.

Two-year CAD/Design degree preferred, with 3–5 years' AutoCAD experience and knowledge of NFPA/NEC standards. Proficiency in Excel/Word and site condition assessment are expected.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree in Computer Aided Drafting/Design in electrical or equivalent preferred.
  • Three to five years' experience with AutoCAD commands and related drafting tasks.
  • Working knowledge of electricity fundamentals and NFPA/NEC standards.

Responsibilities

  • Draw electrical layouts for buildings, panels, lighting and power.
  • Modify client drawings using AutoCAD for general arrangements, wiring diagrams and P&ID’s.
  • Understand Construction, Manufacturing, Control System Design and Electrical Engineering practices.
  • Read vendor information and apply concepts under supervision.
  • Maintain attention to detail and meet project timelines.
  • Handle general administration tasks and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with project team for engineering support and problem solving.

Wunderleich-Malec Engineering is hiring a CAD Designer. This position is responsible for the development of Panel Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Electrical Schematics, Control System Networks as well as General Arrangements, P&ID’s and other electrical plans a

Primary Purpose

This position is responsible for the development of Panel Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Electrical Schematics, Control System Networks as well as General Arrangements, P&ID’s and other electrical plans as needed.

Major Responsibilities
  • Drawing of electrical layouts to include Buildings, Panels, lighting, power, using various standard symbols on specific projects
  • Expected to utilize AutoCAD to modify client drawings such as general arrangements, wiring diagrams, schematics, P&ID’s and other documentation required for upgrade type project work
  • Familiarity with practices and procedures pertaining to technical matters to include Construction, Manufacturing, Control System Design, and Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret vendor information and apply that to design concepts as directed by Senior Designer or Engineering Supervision
  • Must have attention to detail, consistency in work output and be cognizant of project time lines
  • General administration such as paperwork, copying, printing, faxing, and using a computer
  • Have a commitment to meet customer requirements while maintaining quality work within a project
  • Working with project team for engineering support and problem solving
Minimum Requirements
Education

Two-year degree in Computer Aided Drafting/ Design in electrical or equivalent degree is preferred.

Experience
  • Generally, three to five years’ experience preferred including working knowledge of tools and parts necessary for specific projects, knowledge of uses of Auto CAD commands and how to perform tasks (Expertise using Auto CAD 2024 or higher and Auto CAD Electrical)
  • Must have working knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity, ability to apply the NFPA, NEC standards to designs as well
  • Power Plant design experience, including field work is desirable
  • Ability to inspect, measure and assess site conditions as they pertain to project upgrades including general arrangements, cabinet wiring, raceway systems and electrical equipment installations
  • Ability to exercise discretion and make independent decisions successfully within the role of the job responsibilities
  • Requires working knowledge of computer equipment for proper setup and operation, in addition to Microsoft Excel, Word and various office application software
Physical Demands of Position

Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.

Working Environment

Standard office environment, On-site office environment, and diverse industrial environments, Frequent PC usage, copy machines, phones.
