Job summary

Alamo Group in Michigan seeks a Designer to create technical CAD drawings using Solid Edge 3D and AutoCAD 2D. You will maintain records, revise drawings as directed by engineers, and plot outputs for production.

The role reports to the Engineering Manager and requires adherence to drawing standards and safety policies. Candidates should have experience in mechanical hardware drawings, with GD&T preferred, and strong math/reading skills.

Position Summary:

The Designer will create technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They will perform all drafting related functions as described below. All drafting projects are assigned and approved by their supervisor. This position will report to our Engineering Manager.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Using CAD software, generate new drawings as assigned


2. Maintain drafting related records; i.e. number logs, filing, etc.


3. Perform routine revisions as directed by department engineers.


4. Plot/print drawings for production personnel or others as needed.


5. Complete work in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner.


6. Understand and use all existing and future company drawing standards.


7. Use Solid Edge 3D, ACAD 2D, Microsoft Office programs


8. Adhere to all company safety policies, work rules and standard operating procedures.


9. Assist other designing engineers as needed.


10. Other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.


• One (1) year of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) in secondary education is preferred. Will consider experience in lieu of this requirement.


• An associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and experience in heavy equipment design is a plus.
