Job summary

Solventum in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Design Verification Lab Technician to join a team dedicated to advancing healthcare through innovative testing and development.

You will perform varied electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests, fabricate fixtures, review protocols, and collaborate with engineers. The role requires hands-on testing, data reporting, and strict adherence to safety.

Qualifications

  • Associate's technical degree and 1 or more years technical experience in research and development of medical devices will be taken into consideration (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 3 or more years technical experience in research and development of medical devices will be taken into consideration (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • AND
  • One (1) year of experience using engineering test equipment (e.g. Instron, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, etc) in a private, public, government or military environment

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties in the electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical, or optical testing and data reporting.
  • Fabricate electrical / mechanical test fixtures and subassemblies with guidance of engineer.
  • Review test protocols and work instructions for correctness and completeness in preparation for use.
  • Assist in the development of test methods, work instructions, and protocols through writing and review with engineer or lab manager guidance.
  • Responsible for the care and use of sensitive and valuable equipment.
  • Must be able to correctly follow written instruction, engineering drawings, and verbal instructions.
  • Works closely with engineers for assembly and testing of systems involving electronic circuits and/or mechanical components, prototypes and complete product.
  • Requisition and control materials needed to complete testing and development.
  • Facilitate testing by outside testing services or regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain control of equipment in product development areas, test labs, and equipment room.
  • Shipping and receiving of test materials and test products.
  • Perform lab safety inspections and document results.
  • This role may also involve cross-training into software-related design verification activities, based on project needs and individual development goals.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Associate's technical degree and 1 or more years technical experience in research and development of medical devices will be taken into consideration (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 3 or more years technical experience in research and development of medical devices will be taken into consideration (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

AND

  • One (1) year of experience using engineering test equipment (e.g. Instron, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, etc) in a private, public, government or military environment

In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:

  • One (1) year of experience using engineering test equipment (e.g. Instron, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, etc) in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Familiarity with data acquisition and control software, such as LabView and Agilent.
  • Familiarity with requirements-based testing, either from physical or software systems (may be looking for particular discipline based on lab needs and upcoming projects for either software testing or hardware testing).
  • Broad base of experience in the development and testing of electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, optical, and fluidic systems in the medical device industry.
  • Strong technical skills with electronic components.
  • OSHA Safety Training
  • Good verbal and written English skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with PC computer and Microsoft Office software.
  • Flexibility with working hours. Overtime may be required as deemed necessary by business objectives.
  • Testing may require long periods of sitting or standing. Lifting up to 50 lbs can occur.
  • Use of hand tools and mechanical fabrication equipment.

Work location: Onsite San Antonio, TX

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
