Job description

Design Technologist (Murrysville, PA)

Help create digital healthcare experiences that improve how people sleep, breathe, and live. As a Design Technologist on the Sleep & Respiratory Care Experience Design team, you’ll work at the intersection of experience design and software development. You’ll translate customer and patient needs into intuitive, high-impact digital experiences and build coded solutions that bring those ideas to life. Working with global, cross-functional teams, you’ll help deliver digital propositions that are safe, scalable, technically feasible, and valuable to the people who use them.

Responsibilities

Envision and deliver solutions that align with our business goals while providing safe, intuitive, and delightful user experiences. Conduct and lead analysis of user needs. Create frameworks and interaction concepts across domains. Define the role of product within a broader ecosystem. Establish design principles, experience requirements, and guide teams with clarity and accuracy. Bridge design and engineering by creating functional, coded prototypes and solutions that help de-risk go-to-market, communicate experience intent and explore technical feasibility. Work with cross-functional product-development teams, partnering closely with product managers and product owners to define and validate experiences with customers and patients, and with developers to support its implementation. Bring key design competencies to the cross-functional team, including workflow assessments, design sprint facilitation, concept development, and creation of a consistent brand experience for our customers via use of the Philips Design language and system.

Skills & Experience

You’ve acquired 4+ years of relevant experience with a strong combination of product-design judgment and front-end development capability. You are a UX designer with front-end development skills and proficiency in multiple front-end programming languages. You have depth in at least one language/platform. Back-end languages is a plus.

A hands-on approach: you build, test, understand, modify, and evaluate front-end code. You build, not just spec. Experience translating designs into functional prototypes that demonstrate real interactions and help users, stakeholders, and developers evaluate ideas before full development. A commitment to both code quality and experience quality, with a demonstrated ability to use research and testing to incorporate user feedback into design decisions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, balanced with visual craft and attention to detail. Systems thinking: you understand how changes in one part of a product can affect connected devices, apps, and clinical workflows.

Tools you can demonstrate proficiency with include: Design: Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite Development: VS Code, Xcode, Android Studio, Git/GitHub AI-assisted development: Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools Code quality and analysis: linters, SonarQube, Black Duck, or similar tools.

You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as design, human-computer interaction, software engineering, computer science, or a related field. You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position. You have a portfolio that demonstrates both design thinking and technical execution: how you moved from a user need to a design concept to a coded experience; how you incorporated feedback; and how your work influenced the resulting product. We are especially interested in examples where AI-assisted tools helped you explore, prototype, or validate an experience more quickly, while maintaining high design and engineering judgment. You have an interest in healthcare and personal health. Experience creating software in a regulated healthcare environment is a plus. You have strong communication, storytelling and stakeholder-management skills, with experience working in fast-paced, agile, cross-functional teams.
