Job summary

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree required.
• Minimum 5 years of automotive electrical design experience.
• Experience with open/closed loop control systems for sensors and actuators.
• Hands-on with LV components (breakers, relays, wiring).
• Hands-on with HV components (DCDC, motor/inverter, charger).
• Experience with CAN, LIN and Ethernet protocols.
• Familiar with problem-solving methods (8D, Five Whys, Fishbone).
• Knowledge of FMVSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC guidelines.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements for electrical accessories like wiring harnesses and control modules.
• Develop designs using CAD while ensuring vehicle-system compatibility.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software teams for integration.
• Support production and issue resolution with manufacturing and purchasing.

My client is an innovative American automotive manufacturer focused on redefining affordable electric mobility. They are developing a new generation of purpose-built electric vehicles with an emphasis on simplicity, modular design, and customer customisation.

They are looking for a Design Release Engineer - Electrical Accessories to join their expanding team on a Contract basis. The role will be based in Troy, MI.

Job Description:

• Our Client is looking for an energetic and organized Design Release Engineer, Electrical Accessories to lead the development of electrical accessory point integration.
• This position will work with the electrical hardware, systems, and software teams along with the accessory group to develop robust and cost-effective accessory connection points.
• This Engineer will report to the Manager of Electrical Modules and Accessories.
• Responsibilities will be broad in scope and complex, requiring creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and leadership skills.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) program. Master's degree is preferred.
• 5 years of relevant experience in automotive electrical design and release.
• Hands on experience with open loop and closed loop control systems for sensors, actuators, body controllers, ECUs, etc.
• Hands on experience with Low Voltage (LV) components, such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
• Hands on experience with High Voltage (HV) components, such as DCDC converter, motor and inverter, battery, on-board charger, etc.
• Hands on experience with CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication protocols.
• Experience using problem solving methodologies to diagnose complex issues, such as 8D, Five Whys, and Fishbone processes.
• Functional experience with industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
• Highly adaptable and proactive, excelling in fast-paced start-up and new model launch environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the ability to travel (up to 50%).
• Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
