Job summary

Insight Global in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a BIW Upper Body Design & Release Engineer to lead the design, development, validation, and release of BIW upper body sheet metal components across the vehicle lifecycle. This role collaborates with suppliers, stamping plants, and cross-functional teams to meet quality, performance, cost, and launch targets.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive sheet metal development.
• Proficiency with NX, Teamcenter, Vis Pro, and related PLM systems.
• Knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up analysis, and automotive validation testing.
• Strong problem-solving, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the design, development, and release of BIW upper body components and subassemblies, incl. NX.
• Partner with suppliers, stamping plants, and vehicle body shops to support manufacturability, cost targets, and material performance requirements.
• Develop and manage CBOM and quadris for subassemblies.
• Create source package technical documentation and facilitate technical reviews with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
• Define and track engineering validation activities, including DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
• Coordinate validation testing and support issue resolution activities.
• Provide plant launch support, including root cause analysis and corrective actions for assembly, build variation, BSR, fit and finish concerns, and launch-related issues.
• Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, vehicle performance targets, and applicable requirements.
• Communicate project status, risks, and deliverables with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality stakeholders.

BIW Upper Body Design & Release Engineer

Location:

Position Summary

We are seeking a BIW Upper Body Design & Release Engineer responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and release of BIW upper body sheet metal components throughout the vehicle lifecycle. This engineer will collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, stamping plants, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure components meet quality, performance, cost, and launch objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the design, development, and release of BIW upper body components and subassemblies, including parametric modeling utilizing NX.
• Partner with external suppliers, internal stamping plants, and vehicle body shops to support manufacturability, cost targets, and material performance requirements.
• Develop and manage CBOM and quadris for subassemblies.
• Create source package technical documentation and facilitate technical reviews with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
• Define and track engineering validation activities, including DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive sheet metal development or a related discipline.
• Proficiency with NX, Teamcenter, Vis Pro, and related PLM systems.
• Knowledge of metal forming and joining techniques.
• Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up analysis, and automotive validation testing.
• Strong problem-solving, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• KBE training.
• Experience working with internal and/or Tier 1 stamping suppliers.
• Experience utilizing Red-X or similar problem-solving methodologies.
• Experience with DFSS principles.
• Experience with change management, release, and warranty systems.
• Knowledge of global automotive standards.
• Understanding of sheet metal grades and applications.
• Experience supporting body shop operations, pre-production builds, and vehicle launches.

Compensation

$28.00/hr - $33.00/hr

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Employees in this role will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one of employment, including options for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Eligibility to enroll in the 401(k) retirement plan begins after 90 days of employment. Additionally, employees in this role will have access to paid sick leave and other paid time off benefits as required under applicable law.
