ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Design Release Engineer – BIW Underbody to support the design, development, validation, and release of BIW underbody components and assemblies. You will work with design, manufacturing, simulation, quality, and supplier teams to ensure products meet design and manufacturing requirements.

The role requires a Mechanical/Automotive/Manufacturing Engineering degree, BIW experience, NX CAD proficiency, and strong GD&T skills, in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with BIW underbody components, sheet metal stampings, or automotive body structures.
  • Understanding of sheet metal forming and forming simulation reports.
  • Basic proficiency in Siemens NX CAD.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or a similar PLM system.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and its application to automotive components.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced automotive engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and release of BIW underbody stampings and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure design, performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements are met.
  • Review engineering designs and communicate technical concerns clearly to designers and manufacturing teams.
  • Review sheet metal forming simulations to assess manufacturability and inform design decisions.
  • Use NX CAD to review designs and facilitate technical discussions.
  • Apply GD&T to evaluate dimensional requirements and support product performance.
  • Participate in design reviews, ECNs, and product development milestones.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to address technical concerns.
  • Maintain clear documentation of engineering decisions and open issues.

The Design Release Engineer – BIW Underbody is responsible for supporting the design, development, validation, and release of Body-in-White (BIW) underbody components and assemblies. The role focuses on ensuring that underbody stampings and assemblies meet design, dimensional, performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

The engineer will work closely with design, manufacturing, simulation, quality, and supplier teams to review engineering solutions, communicate technical concerns, and support the resolution of product development and manufacturing challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and release of BIW underbody stampings and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure design, performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements are met.
  • Review engineering designs and communicate technical concerns clearly to designers, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret sheet metal forming simulation reports to assess manufacturability and support design decisions.
  • Use basic NX CAD knowledge to review designs, understand engineering solutions, and facilitate technical discussions.
  • Apply GD&T principles to evaluate dimensional requirements and support functional product performance.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering change activities, and product development milestones.
  • Support the identification and resolution of issues related to BIW underbody design, forming, assembly, and dimensional variation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to address technical concerns and support design improvements.
  • Maintain clear communication and documentation of engineering decisions, open issues, and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with BIW underbody components, sheet metal stampings, or automotive body structures.
  • Understanding of sheet metal forming and forming simulation reports.
  • Basic proficiency in Siemens NX CAD.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or a similar PLM system.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and its application to automotive components.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to understand technical issues, listen to stakeholder concerns, and drive effective resolution.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced automotive engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
  • Exposure to BIW underbody design release, stamping, assembly, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Familiarity with forming simulation, dimensional variation, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience supporting engineering changes, supplier coordination, and vehicle development programs.
