Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a motivated Junior BIW Engineer to support the design, development, and release of BIW sheet metal components for automotive vehicle programs. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of automotive engineering experience and exposure to BIW systems.

You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams from concept through production, perform 3D CAD reviews, ensure manufacturability, and participate in design reviews and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• 1–3 years of automotive engineering experience.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of BIW structures and sheet metal components.
• Understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and dimensional requirements.
• Familiarity with automotive manufacturing and sheet metal forming processes.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of BIW sheet metal components.
• Work on BIW areas including upper body, underbody, side body, closures, and structural components.
• Review and support 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and design requirements.
• Assist with component packaging, interfaces, dimensional requirements, and design feasibility.
• Support development of sheet metal parts considering manufacturability, assembly, weld accessibility, and dimensional requirements.
• Work with senior engineers to investigate and resolve design, fit, finish, and manufacturing issues.
• Support prototype, build, and vehicle-level activities and help identify BIW-related issues.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to support component development and issue resolution.
• Assist with engineering changes, design updates, documentation, and component release activities.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and cross-functional problem-solving activities.
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for BIW design and production issues.
• Ensure designs meet applicable engineering, quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements.

We are seeking a motivated Junior BIW Engineer to support the design, development, and release of Body-in-White (BIW) components for automotive vehicle programs. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of automotive engineering experience with exposure to sheet metal, upper body, underbody, or related BIW systems.

The engineer will work closely with design, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and vehicle engineering teams to support component development from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of Body-in-White (BIW) sheet metal components.
• Work on BIW areas including upper body, underbody, side body, closures, and structural components.
• Review and support 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and design requirements.
• Assist with component packaging, interfaces, dimensional requirements, and design feasibility.

• Experience or exposure to one or more of the following:
• Underbody
• Side Body
• Closures
• Sheet Metal
• Understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and dimensional requirements.
• Familiarity with automotive manufacturing and sheet metal forming processes.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams is preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with automotive BIW design and development.
• Knowledge of sheet metal design, stamping, hemming, welding, and joining processes.
• Familiarity with CATIA, NX, or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience with Teamcenter or other PLM systems is a plus.
• Understanding of BIW dimensional quality and tolerance stack-up.
• Exposure to prototype or production vehicle builds.
• Ability to troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Experience Level

• 1–3 years of relevant automotive BIW engineering experience
