Job summary

SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Design & Producibility Engineer to work on submarine launched weapons / UUV systems and related test equipment. The role involves collaborating with government and SAIC engineers to design, test, and implement modern systems for the U.S.

Navy. The position offers a remote work arrangement with in-office collaboration during travel, with team presence in Middletown RI, Charleston SC, and Silverdale WA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, drafting/CAD, manufacturing, quality, or hardware testing.
• Demonstrated proficiency creating production-quality 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (SolidWorks or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, casting, coatings/plating, assembly).
• Experience developing or executing test plans, inspection plans, or quality acceptance criteria for hardware.
• Ability to read, interpret, and flow down engineering specifications and drawings.
• Strong written communication: able to author engineering documents and test reports for customer delivery.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance; ITAR data handling capability.
• Experience on DoD/Navy hardware programs; familiarity with TDPs, CDRLs, SETR-style design reviews.
• Exposure to FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, and MIL-STD-882 safety concepts.
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (Windchill) and requirements tools (DOORS Next Gen).

Responsibilities

• Create, convert, and maintain production-ready 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for assemblies and sub-assemblies.
• Embed product definition into models/drawings: GD&T, materials, finishes, part numbers, revision history, and critical notes.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses for fit and interchangeability across mating interfaces.
• Support drawing release and redlines through the configuration management process.
• Maintain configuration-controlled material libraries and design data in Windchill.
• Develop producibility models and perform DFM analyses to optimize geometry and yield.
• Perform quality assurance calculations supporting inspection planning and process capability.
• Support tooling evaluations, process validation, and first article inspection planning.
• Support development of manufacturing qualification processes and readiness criteria.
• Support capture and management of system-level requirements with DOORS Next Gen.
