Help us shape safer, more connected roadways and highways across Florida while gaining hands-on experience in transportation engineering. In this role, you’ll support projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and local agencies, working alongside experienced engineers and project managers on real-world infrastructure challenges.

As an Engineering Intern, you will assist with engineering analysis, design development, and technical documentation while learning industry standards, tools, and best practices. You’ll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and build a strong foundation for a future career in transportation engineering.

Our DESIGN Interns are an important part of our project teams and contribute meaningfully to the work we do. As part of our team, you will:

Learn by doing: Assist engineers with roadway design tasks, calculations, and plan preparation under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Build technical skills: Support the development of engineering models, drawings, and documentation using industry-standard software.

Collaborate and grow: Work with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and technical staff to support project goals and timelines.

Support quality: Help review plans and data for accuracy and consistency while learning FDOT standards and local agency requirements.

Ask questions and improve: Participate in reviews, receive feedback, and continuously build your technical and professional skills.

See the big picture: Gain exposure to how transportation projects are planned, designed, and delivered from concept to construction.

Currently pursuing a degree: Enrolled in a civil engineering or related engineering program.

Technical aptitude: Familiarity with engineering software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD is a plus, but not required.

Eagerness to learn: A positive attitude, willingness to take feedback, and motivation to grow professionally.

Past Experience is a Plus

To excel as a Design Intern, you’ll need to bring more than just technical skills. Here’s what makes you a great fit:

Enrolled in Junior/Senior-Level Courses: Ready to apply your academic knowledge in real-world settings.

Previous Internship Experience: Build on your prior experience and take your skills to the next level.

CADD Experience: Use of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for engineering plan production.

Competitive Compensation

This position is tailored for University Students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering degree. And as, such work assignments can be balanced from a part-time to full-time position. Hourly rates for this position range between $20 to $25 based on prior experience and current qualifications. Be assured that our base compensation rates are reviewed to be above the industry average.
