Job summary

Premier Marine, Inc. in Minnesota seeks a Design Engineer Intern to join our family-owned team. You will work under a Senior Engineer on cross-functional design activities, from concept to production, to help build the world’s best pontoons.

The role emphasizes CAD modeling, engineering analysis, and collaboration to deliver robust components while you develop hands-on skills in cost, performance, and project schedules in a supportive, growth‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Completed at least 2 years of engineering coursework.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3-D CAD packaging.
• FEM/FEA, CFD, GD&T and tolerance analysis experience preferred.
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Create product designs aligned with engineering principles and customer requirements.
• Apply root cause analysis to drive design improvements.
• Perform engineering analysis and develop electronic models; predict performance prior to prototyping.
• Generate CAD models, layouts, drawings, and tolerance analyses for releases.
• Set project schedules and manage timely task completion.
• Determine manufacturing processes to meet performance and cost targets.
• Prepare concept designs and evaluate new technologies to drive innovation.
• Execute R&D activities including prototype builds, testing, and design revisions.
• Analyze field problems and warranty data to implement corrective actions.
• Perform other project-related assignments as needed.

The Premier Engineering Internship program is designed to give you an opportunity to work in a collaborative product development environment. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a cross-functional development team to create designs of Industry leading Pontoon boat components and systems. With guidance from a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to drive design development activities from concept to production to meet customer needs and drive innovation solutions aligned with company Core Values & Objectives. You will also have the opportunity to extend learnings from the classroom into completing Engineering analysis to drive design improvements that meet requirements for performance, quality, product cost, and the project schedule.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Create product designs aligned with engineering principles, company and industry manufacturing processes, government regulations, and customer requirements.
• Utilize root cause problem solving to drive design related product improvements.
• Complete Engineering analysis, electronic models, and statistical analysis to predict the success of component and system designs prior to physical prototypes.
• Generate CAD models, layouts, detail drawings, and tolerance analysis required to produce robust design solutions, and execute tasks for the release cycle.
• Establish a reasonable project schedule and manage timely completion of tasks.
• Determine component manufacturing process to meet overall performance and cost.
• Prepare new concept designs/sketches and evaluates new technologies to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
• Execute research and development activities to drive the technical evolution of component and system designs including: creating design reviews to gain cross-functional partner input, planning and executing prototype builds, driving system verification and validation testing, executing certification activities, and driving design improvements/revisions based on learnings.
• Analyze field problems and warranty data to drive corrective actions.
• Perform other miscellaneous project related assignments.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Required - Pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
• Required – Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Completion of at least 2 years of Engineering coursework
• Experience with a 3-D CAD modeling package such as Solidworks
• Experience with analytical tools based on engineering principles: Application of free body diagrams and hand calculations of statics and dynamics; Computer modeling such as FEA, CFD experience desired; GD&T and dimensional tolerance stack-ups; Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• High level of people skills, able to work in a team environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Quick learner with high level of ambition and resolve, self-starter able to manage complexity and ambiguous design paths, creative problem solver that can drive innovative solutions
• Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

Physical Requirements

• Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
• Must be able to see details at close range.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to read work instructions and drawings.
• Must be able to work at a fast pace.
• Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by lifting, walking, bending, twisting and carrying materials.
