Job summary

Reliance One is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for a contract opportunity in Ann Arbor, MI. The role involves creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and technical reports, while collaborating with vehicle, drivetrain, engine design, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to meet milestones.

You will benchmark designs, drive cost, mass, and performance targets, and support powertrain development. Travel domestically and internationally as needed; CAD proficiency and GD&T are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4+ years of automotive design/development experience.
• Strong CAD skills.
• Strong understanding of GD&T.
• Knowledge of conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrains.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design reviews and report key design metrics.
• Develop countermeasures to achieve cost, mass, performance, and fatigue‑strength targets.

• Manage suppliers to ensure quality parts are delivered according to project milestones.
• Support continuous improvement of engineering design processes and deliverables.
• Benchmark competitive designs for cost, performance, and customer expectations.

Design Engineer – Contract Opportunity | Ann Arbor, MI | $50–$55/Hour

Position Details:

• Contract opportunity
• Location: Ann Arbor, MI
• Pay Rate: $50–$55/hour
• Benefits begin Day 1
• Paid Time Off
• Paid Holidays
• Local travel: Approximately 10%
• Overtime: Approximately 20%

What You'll Be Doing:

• Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and engineering instruction sheets
• Participate in design reviews and report key design metrics

Required Qualifications:

Highly Experience:

• Extensive engine design or development experience
• Detailed design experience with ICE systems, including lubrication, belt systems, timing chain covers, fuel systems, cooling systems, intake systems, and exhaust systems
• Experience with CREO and powertrain CAE tools such as FEA, CFD, or GT‑Power
• Knowledge of aluminum and iron castings, thermoplastics, stampings, and forgings
• Hands‑on engine or powertrain assembly experience
• Advanced knowledge of GD&T and ICE/transmission manufacturing methods
• Experience with DRBFM
• Knowledge of Quality Management and Supply Chain Management principles
• Production engineering experience
• Master's degree in Engineering is a plus
